What do you need to survive? I am not talking about what you want.. what do you need. You need water, food, shelter and the means to defend yourself.
I will likely part ways with other Preppers and Survivalist when I say this.. What ever events that will take place and what ever the specific circumstances that manifest, I believe that a possible scenario is putting all you own on your back and walking in to the woods and away from all you own. The last place you will want to be is in a home you own, or a car you drive. You and your love ones will not want to be easily found. I know that many of like mindedness have
Stormcases of gear hidden for later recovery and use. Not a bad idea .. wink wink.. nudge nudge..
The reason for the parting of ways is that some Preppers and Survivalist have a "Hold The Fort" basis for most of the preparations they have made, and I applaud and commend them, I wish them success, I hope they live out in the wilderness, I hope they can continue to repel the current and coming threats ( just ask
Randy Weaver, this link is from Wikipedia. My thought and beliefs are not as neutral) and don't live in a major metropolitan area that will so easily slip into the chaotic hell of the worst of humanity, much like the haunting movie
The Road . I have come to the grim, and wholly unattractive conclusion that mobility equals survival. Groups of six to four people moving every 72 to 48 hours. I will go into more detail later on that
So... it would be a great idea that you and all you care about have a good
pack, packed, staged and ready to go. A good pair of
boots and the rest of the gear you will need to survive for an indefinite period of time.
So remember what you need?
Water is life.
I can not state that any more clearly. To any of you that have spent extended periods of time out in the desert or pretty much any hot or cold climate, more than likely have seen a buddy do the Kicking Chicken or much worse. Get cut off from your water supply or the means to make more.. Nightingale may be inbound for you. All I can say, for the rest of this post(s) is, think like a Uber Survivalist, Backpacker, SF Operator.
That pack on your back I was talking about, lets start filling it with gear.
There are many models of portable water purifiers out there but I will stake my life on this one >>
The MiniWorks will screw right on to wide mouth water bottles and
the Long-Neck Water Beast , I would ruck at least three to four, You don't have to keep them all full at all times but store them at a base camp.
Its pretty much bomb and grunt proof, just pay special attention to the ceramic filter and it would not hurt to pick up a spare filter and filter maintenance kit. Try to find moving fresh water, then still fresh water then as situation and survival dictate, what you can find. I have seen and drank water from the MiniWorks that would knock a buzzard off a gut truck and not gotten sick.. but I have also eaten food in the Third World and I'm still kicking.
DO NOT take a chance with your water! When in doubt, don't drink it. If you have too, boil it and then run it through the MiniWorks. In a survival situation, drinking bad water can kill you though a myriad of wonderful little microorganisms that will have you going like a fire-hose from both ends until you dehydrate to death.. not a pretty way to go.
If you find yourself in a bad way without a water purifier this will get you by
A word of warning; any hunter of animals or men reading this will tell you.. be especially aware of your surroundings at a "watering hole." This is prime time for opportunistic threats or anyone or thing that has been tracking you.
